Patiente Vertriedung asbl reports on 25 patients affected in the Dr WILMES case

04.02.2026

Patiente Vertriedung asbl has published a press release regarding the case of Dr Wilmes.

It provides information on the current status of our work and our requests for more patients safety.

Patiente Vertriedung asbl provides an update on the current status of its work in connection with the Dr WILMES case, in the interest of transparency and patient protection.

To date, twenty-five (25) patients who were operated on by Dr WILMES have contacted Patiente Vertriedung asbl. Following the procedures, they report health impairments or changes affecting their daily lives. In several cases, a second medical assessment has been realised and critically questions the necessity of the operations performed. Any further clarification of these cases must be carried out by independent bodies, the judiciary, and medical experts.

Patiente Vertriedung asbl has forwarded this information in a formal letter to the Minister of Health, Ms Martine Deprez, as well as to the Collège Médical, in order to inform the competent authorities of the reported cases and, where appropriate and subject to the patients’ consent, to transmit the cases for joint follow-up.

Our position and commitment:

  • Patiente Vertriedung asbl provides advice and support to the affected patients and assists them with all matters relating to medical care and the possible consequences of the procedures.
  • We emphasize that any further clarification must be undertaken by independent bodies, the judiciary, and medical experts. Public debate cannot replace such assessments and should not influence the work of these institutions.
  • We call for the immediate establishment of an independent quality control system within the healthcare sector, as existing control mechanisms are clearly insufficient to ensure long-term patient safety and to prevent comparable situations in the future.
  • Patiente Vertriedung asbl is ready to support the next steps in close cooperation with the competent authorities, in particular the Ministry and the Collège Médical, and to promote constructive dialogue.

These measures aim to ensure that patients’ concerns are appropriately taken into account and that healthcare in Luxembourg is delivered on a transparent and quality-assured basis.
